pRYEde Community Group Has Been Designated as a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit

Press Release

September 20, 2022

pRYEde Community Group (www.pRYEde.org) is THRILLED to announce we have been designated as a nonprofit with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code.  We are excited about the new opportunities to seek grants and fundraise that this nonprofit status will open to us.  Our new 501(c)(3) status will grow our mission to advocate locally for equity and inclusion; celebrate the diversity of Rye and the greater community; engage in educational programming; and strengthen sense of belonging for all, especially for those who hold minoritized identities.

pRYEde has accomplished great things in our local community over the last three years using the proceeds from the rainbow garden flag sales. We are thankful to the many people, businesses and organizations that have purchased our flags - over 500 sold and still selling!  pRYEde’s rainbow flags have a dual purpose - first and foremost they paint our town in rainbows, creating space for our LGBTQ+ residents and visitors.  It is supported in the research that visible cues such as pride flags increase protection and reduce negative health outcomes such as depression, anxiety and suicidality for youth who identify as LGBTQ+.  Second, the proceeds from our flag sales helped fund our pRYEde sponsored projects and partnerships, which include numerous joyful Pride celebrations and informational programs, the teen-led creation of two large scale outdoor murals, the formation of a confidential support network for parents and guardians of LGBTQ+ youth, and the building of a large and diverse lending library available to our community. We will continue to provide educational programming to families and organizations and bring in leading experts to guide these programs.

We invite the support and contributions of those interested in helping us further our mission. Please consider purchasing a flag or making a tax-exempt donation to pRYEde! (www.pRYEde.org)
